The FCPS School Board approved
the FCPS Facilities Staff's
recommendation at last week's
meeting after 2 1/2 hours of
amendments, motions and
objections to amendments and
motions -- attached is a picture
of the new boundary for Hayfield
Secondary, beginning with the
2007-2008 school year.

The bottom line is that we will
be adding approximately a total of
250 students next year in
grades 7, 8 and 9, and by 2011
our population will be just
under 3,000 -- given all the
options and amendments to
the options, this is the best
Hayfield could have possibly
hoped for and we are very
pleased and proud of the results.

Thanks to all of you who
attended meetings, wrote to
the School Board and generally
crossed your fingers --
we couldn't have kept this
necessary growth buffer
without you. We hope we are
done -- however, the School Board
will be re-examining the
South County boundary in two
years when the Laurel Hill
Elementary School is built....
so stayed tuned!

Many of you sent emails and
letters to the School Board,
but if you'd like to send one
more please forward a thank
you to Brad Center for working
through this with us every step
of the way and supporting the
Hayfield community for so many
months...Brad.Center@fcps.edu.
In addition, Brad truly did a
phenomenal job during the board
meeting, had all the facts and
figures, and may have even changed
a few minds that very evening.

This is the first time I've
personally been invested in a
boundary process and it was
definitely a learning experience
in many ways. But, the one thing
that was reinforced over and over
again was the honest to goodness
dedication of Hayfield parents
working tirelessly for their
children -- to make sure the
education system has the best
possible chance of having a
positive effect on each and
every student.

I'm comforted to know that
my Island Creek experience will
continue next year at Hayfield.
Again, thank you for your support.
