Message from your PTA Officers

Well 2011 has come and gone and 2012 is here. We have had a terrific time providing events that bring our Island Creek family together. We have enjoyed lots of traditional things and had a great time providing some new things too. For us it is about teaching our children the simple pleasures of celebrating life together with our family and our friends. We offer our most heartfelt thanks to all of you for all your help and support. For every copy, every phone call, every email, every newsletter, every meeting, every minute of time, each donation, every single cookie and cupcake ... thank you. Without you we could never get everything done. We have a busy 2012 planned and hope you will all be able to spend some time with us. School is back in full swing and we have begun our search for some new leaders, so ask questions and get involved. Encourage your friends to join in the fun, but for now we would like to wish you and yours a wonderful new year.

State of Technology at Island Creek

At our January 3, 2012 PTA meeting, Mr. Macrina and Mr. Moran gave a presentation on the aging technology at Island Creek. If you were unable to make it to this meeting, please take a few minutes and look at the State of Island Creek Technology.

Basket Bingo -- February 3, 2012

Mark your calendars -- Basket Bingo will be coming Friday, February 3, 2012 featuring Vera Bradley and Longaberger. We need your help to fill our PTA Bingo Prize Baskets and Vera Bradley items. The basket themes for this year are:

Pre-School -- Arts and Crafts
Kindergarten -- Baking Goodies
1st Grade -- Gardening
2nd Grade -- All American Dad
3rd Grade -- Cooking Something Good
4th Grade -- Summer Beach Fun
5th Grade -- Dad the "Grill Master"
6th Grade -- Sports and Fitness

PTA Annual 5K Croc Trot - April 28, 2012

The PTA Annual 5K Croc Trot will be held on April 28, 2012. If you made a resolution to get in shape for 2012, then the PTA has something to help you achieve your goal. The PTA is pleased to announce that in conjunction with the Croc Trot 5K, we will be sponsoring the Croc Trotters. The Croc Trotters is a 12-week program designed to prepare novice runners for the 5K. The Trotters will use a modified version of the popular "Couch to 5K" running program that combines walking and jogging gradually longer distances each week. Sessions will begin on February 11 at 7:30 AM and continue through April 21. For more information and registration on the Croc Trotters, please print out this form. Reflections Program - 2011-2012

The Island Creek PTA will be sponsoring the Reflections Program again next year under the leadership of Reflections Committee Chair Nancy Harris. The theme for the 2011-2012 Reflections Program is “Diversity means.” Artistic Crocs are encouraged to work on their Reflections projects during the summer break to get a jump on the busy fall schedule. The Reflections Program is the PTA’s national arts recognition program, and during its 40-year history, the annual program has encouraged millions of students across the nation to explore and display their artistic talents. The Reflections Program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students from preschool through 6th Grade are encouraged to submit original works of art in six areas:

Literature
Dance choreography
Film/video production
Musical composition
Photography
Visual arts (drawing, painting, print making, and collage)

Join the PTA!

Sometimes it is difficult with our overloaded schedules to even think about helping out at the school or with PTA functions. One of the very easiest ways to help is to become a PTA Member. As a PTA member, your only requirement is to send in the membership dues and sit back and watch your investment at work. Membership dues are critical to the amazing work your PTA does to enrich the education experience your child receives as Island Creek Elementary School. Remember anyone can become a member...Mom, Dad, Grandparents, friends can be PTA members. So when the membership envelope arrives please remember what a huge difference just a few dollars can make. Just fill out this form and send back to your childs teacher with your dues.
