Principal’s Remarks
Dr. Susan Owner was also pleased to see everyone at the meeting and spoke about Back-to-School Night the evening before, as well as entering our fourth year at Island Creek. She provided an analysis of previous years, how much we’ve grown as a school and how much more we can accomplish. Dr. Owner also provided information on the internationally known learning consultant who will be working with the Island Creek staff beginning at the end of September. She feels teachers and students will gain tremendous skills from this opportunity, and will benefit the school as a whole.
Dr. Owner also spoke about the school’s growing population, which necessitated adding more Kindergarten classes this year. She introduced the second grade team: Carol Fay, Sandy Spiro, Elaine Coburn and Carol Valent (Kevin Morris was unable to attend).
President’s Remarks
Liz Dunn passed around several thank you notes the PTA received from teachers following the welcome back breakfast and lunch. She also mentioned how well the first parent coffees were received, and that many of the attendees at tonight’s meeting also came to the coffees.
Liz then asked for a motion to approve the June minutes. Marsha Porter-Houghton motioned to approve; Jeanne Igo seconded the motion. There was no discussion. The minutes passed with no dissent. They will be posted to the website.
