Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2006
Attendees: Elaine Coburn, Marsha Porter-Houghton, Jeanne Igo, Steve Wallen, Jeanette Pai Kim, Marta Swanson, Sarah Hoyt Weller, Mike Macrina, Angela Turnbull, Susan Owner, Cherie Rogers-Mazyck, Toni Shipe, Liz Dunn, and Liz Townsend
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by Jeanne Igo, PTA President. Jeanne welcomed all present to the meeting. Jeanne read a poem called “The Bones of the PTA.” giving an analogy between different bones and the PTA.
The May minutes were reviewed. Kevin Brugman moved to accept the minutes. Marsha Porter-Houghton seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
Dr. Owner welcomed the 2nd grade team, with representatives Elaine Coburn and Carol Fay. She said the PTA should feel good about the work they have done this year. The teachers were delighted with the idea of audio-enhanced classrooms after a tour at Silverbrook Elementary; it is a lovely gift to the students and Dr. Owner sent a big thank you to the PTA. REACH week was very successful, and it will eventually help provide a Smart Board for each grade level and may even provide for audio-enhanced classrooms in preschool and the music room. In planning for next year, she may ask the PTA for funding toward professional development with a focus on literacy. As the end of the year approaches, there will be a music open house and a drama presentation which we are all looking forward to.
Jeanne said that Tom Harlow will be making wooden signs for the PTA, as he did for the drama club, to advertise events such as Basket Bingo.

New Business
Liz Dunn presented Jeanne Igo with flowers as a thank you for all of her service to the PTA. She called her the “back bone” of the PTA. Two years of service is a long time to serve, especially for a new school. A birdhouse will be placed in the garden in front of the school in honor of Jeanne and her hard work as President of the PTA.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sarah Hoyt Weller
PTA Secretary
