I. President’s Report and Old Business:
Jeanne mentioned that there is a new tax form and that Hospitality may need to use it for donations.
Dr. Owner discussed the critical condition of one of the students from Island Creek and explained how the school will deal with informing the child’s classmates. Concern was expressed for the family, but Dr. Owner said that the family was not able to take calls and they are focusing only on their sick child at this time. Field Day has been postponed because Mr. Taguding was in an accident.
Teachers are very appreciative of all of the support and great attitude shown on behalf of the parents and it makes them want to go the extra mile for their students. The second grade team was introduced. Dr. Owner covered how the PTA’s contributions are already being used for field trips. She stressed that parent volunteers are very important to the school and that the written handouts and the workshop being offered give the parents guidelines, which will provide the best experience for all involved. The Croc’s Creed is being constantly evaluated and tinkered with by a group of teachers who meet just on this issue of values. The teachers and staff provided wonderful food for the Crockateers Meeting (volunteer training).

Education:
Howard Wahlberg asked that the following people make their reports or if they were absent he covered the issues himself:
Math & Science Made Easy - Janet Cliatt reported that the first packets went home and she is hoping for a great response.
CAPS- Sarah Weller described some of her plans for the Assemblies in November, December and February.
Reflections – Denise Bolton has arranged for lots of publicity and all the rules and packets were sent home with the children.
FLEX – A Spanish Teacher is needed for the Flex program.
Special Education – no updates at this time.
Membership- Liz Dunn reported that membership has reached its goal already and money is still coming in.
New Business:
Jeanne Igo asked whether we would like to cut the Committee Reports and Business items down and have guest speakers at some of the PTA meetings. The general consensus was that we would like to do that. Suggestions were made as to the kind of topics we would like to see covered (SOL Prep, the language of math, spelling methodologies, technology). There is a tutoring resource list that Ms. Markon keeps, though the school does not endorse one tutor over another. A child care list is also available in the office.
A Fun Fair will be sponsored by the school itself (not the PTA) in April or May. The goal is that it be self supporting and should break even. It is not a fundraiser, and it will be open to the whole community.
The Annual PTA Convention is coming up. See Jeanne if you want to go. Jeanne also said that the Safeway Root Beer Float day was a great success with more than $500.00 raised.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:10 pm. The next meeting will be held November 3, 2004 at 7:00 pm.
