Island Creek PTA Meeting

 Minutes of April 6, 2005

 

Attendees: Howard Wahlberg, Sharon Shrader, Mike Macrina, Dr. Owner, Susan Fielding, Brooke Harris, Tonia Parker, Kim Clancy, Amanda O’Hara, Jen Bishop, Sarah Weller, Liz Dunn, Jeanne Igo, Marsha Houghton, and Cindy Smoot.

 

I. President’s Report and Old Business:

Jeanne Igo called the meeting to order at 7:09pm.  She welcomed all attendees and teachers and introduced the Board.  Howard Wahlberg made the Motion to approve the March minutes.  The motion was seconded and the minutes of March 2, 2005 were approved unanimously. Two teacher grants for $1,030.00 have been approved.

 

II. Administrative Report:

Croc Stock presentation was given in lieu of the Administrative Report.

 

 

III.  Treasurer’s Report:

Sonia Smith explained the current budget and reported that two teacher grants had been approved.  Discussion was held on moving money in the budget around.

 

IV. Vice Presidents’ Reports:

Community Outreach:

Sheila Dixon was not able to attend.  Jeanne reported briefly in her absence.

Newsletter – Liz Townsend asked everyone for articles and anything to go into the newsletter.  Her email address is etownsend@cox.net

Beautification/Grounds  – No report at this time.

 

Education:

Howard Wahlberg asked for committee reports and elaborated where necessary.  He mentioned that more evaluation and critiques of the grants was needed.

CAPS –Sarah Weller the Woodson Group (improv troupe) will not work out as they like to work with a much smaller group.  She will explore other options.

FLEX --  No report at this time.

Reflections – the Reflections winners were announced.

Math & Science Made Easy – Jeanne gave the report.  The program has begun, but they are looking into other options for next year.

Volunteers – Cindy Wade reported that the volunteers for Art Night were wonderful.  They had thirty bakers! 

 

Ways and Means:

Penny was not able to attend, but Jen gave the report in her absence.

Walk-a-thon -             We are checking with Island Creek Community President for use of the clubhouse for a meeting place to start the Walk-a-thon.  We will have doughnuts afterwards.

School Supply Packets – Problems with the previous packets was discussed.  We are working with a new company this next school year.

Fundraising – Jennifer Bishop reported that Candy Cook and others at Safeway appreciated the thank you letters very much.  We will hold another Restaurant Night to benefit the patrols.  Lavenders was chosen as the new gift wrap company for next school year.  They will guarantee that we make the amount we earned last year or more.

           

New Business:

We discussed the all night graduation party at Hayfield Secondary School and their requests for donations.  Liz Dun made a motion that we donate $100.00 to Hayfield for this purpose.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

Spirit Week is April 18-22.  We have many vacancies on the Board and on committees for next year.  Please come forward to help your school.

 

The website bill was discussed and will be submitted for payment. 

 

We have received two more grant requests – one for $500.00 for the drama club and one for $450.00 for the 4th grade reading program.  Dr. Owner explained that there is no need to go over our budget line item for those.  The school has the money for those requests.   

 

Kim Clancy discussed the possibility of the PTA’s financial help for a Patrol Party.  She will put a proposal together for this.  We discussed moving money around to help with that item.  Howard Wahlberg made a motion that $419.00 from teacher support and $348.20 from the art gallery be moved into hospitality for teacher appreciation week and the patrol party.  The motion was seconded and passed.

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:00 pm and the teacher/administration presentation on the Croc Creed program was begun.  The next PTA Meeting will be held May 4, 2005 at 7:00 pm.
