Island Creek PTA Meeting

June 17, 2003

Attendees: Margaret Von Kolnitz, Sharon Shrader, Sandy Esquivel, Cindy Harlow, Jen Bishop, Alicia Szramoski, Karen McDowell, Kevin Brugman, Lori, Cardillo, Joy McManus, Liz Townsend, Susan Owner, Sandy England, Andrew Press, Lisa Backe, Brenda Bring, John Goodwin, Mike Macrina, Jessica Tyeryar, Cindy Smoot, Bradys Busu, Betty Harris, Diane Hicks, Simone McDonald, and Cheryl Rowe.

Meeting began at 7:05 pm.

I. Introductions:

PTA District Director Bill Levy spoke about PTA members in Fairfax County.  He was also in attendance to swear in the newly elected Officers later in the meeting.  Dotty Andrews was there as a State Volunteer.  She encouraged leadership training.

Dr. Susan Owner, Island Creek Principal, spoke.  They have had a student meeting, two staff meetings, and their last Parent Coffee.  The last Coffee brought in about 45 people, many of them new faces.  The faculty has already met in grade level groupings to begin the planning/ordering process.  Island Creek is 90% staffed.  As always, she expressed that anyone should contact her with questions.

III. Discussion of the Bylaws:

The bylaws are standard.  There were no significant changes from Lane’s current bylaws which were just revised this past year.  $ 8.00 will be the PTA membership.  We keep $5.00 locally.  Meetings will be the first Tuesday of every month.

A change was made to Article XIV of the bylaws.  The words or elected shall be omitted.  Delegates will be appointed.

IV. Motion to Elect:

Officers were inducted.

Treasurer: Betty Harris

Secretary: Joy McManus

V. New Business:

We will be doing fundraising throughout the summer, starting with Pizzeria Uno.  Jen Bishop is leading the cause. She distributed flyers with coupons to use on June 25^th from 5-9 pm.  Island Creek PTA will get 20% of the money from bills when that coupon is presented.

Spiritwear will go on sale this summer for distribution the first week or two of school.  Our colors are green and white, with our mascot being the crocodile.  A school logo is currently being designed.  Joy McManus is coordinating the effort.  The plan is to send order forms out in late July once the database and logo are ready.

Our next meeting is July 15^th at 7 pm at Jen Bishop’s house.

Our current budget is $324.00
