Island Creek PTA Meeting

May 4, 2004

 

Attendees: Cindy Smoot, Liz Townsend, Howard Wahlberg, Joy McManus,Susan Owner, Cindy Harlow, Kevin Brugman, Margaret Von Kolnitz, Carol Fay, Fran O’Donnell, Liz Dunn, Sharon Shrader, Jeanne Igo, Barb Gaynor, Danja Roberts, Pamela Butler, Christine Trudeau,Tawnie Jewett, Lisa Greur, Jen Bishop, Sheila Dixon, Penny Klein, Stephanie Guidinetti, and Beth Monroney.

 

I. President’s Report

Margaret Von Kolnitz that the transition that the transition has begun and will continue at the June meeting with small group work and desserts. The PTA minutes will now be available in the Main Office and our the PTA website only which is www.islandcreekpta.org.    Simone McDonald and Jen Bishop were Island Creek PTA’s nominees for Volunteers of the Year.  On May 21st  at 7:00pm at Lane Elementary there will be a ceremony in honor of Helene Brower who is retiring at the end of this school year.  If you will like to make a monetary contribution, please give the money to Margaret or Kathy Wolbers at Lane. Teachers have been sending thank yous for all that has happened for them during Teacher Appreciation Week. 

 

II. Administrative Report:

 

Dr. Owner’s report was full of thank yous.  A special thank you to the PTA for Teacher Appreciation week.  A special thank you to Liz Dunn for her efforts with the dedication.  Also a big thanks to Sandy England for the beautification in front of the school.   Mrs. Woodall, school librarian helped students who wanted to write a thank you poem to the PTA.  It will be printed in the next PTA newsletter.  Representing the teachers was third grade teacher Mrs. Trudeau.  The opera is coming this week to Island Creek.  The 5th grade is taking a field trip to Luray Caverns.  Next year parents of students in Title One schools that do not make adequate yearly progress according to the No Child Left Behind law over the past two years can opt to transfer their children to schools that have been designated who have made the necessary progress.  Island Creek may be one of those designated to receive Title One Students from our Cluster.  More information will be coming. There will be website linked to the PTA website to keep you updated.  The school administration has begun planning for next year and is asking for input regarding what environment you feel you child will do best in.  Contact the school office if you have questions.

$12,442.72.

 

III. Vice President Reports

Community Outreach:

Cindy’s report was also full of thank yous.  Kevin Brugman has done a great job on the website.  Carol Fay and Lori Cardillo have been hosting wonderful events as Hospitality Chairs.  Liz who will continue next year has produced great newsletters.  Again, Sandy England was recognized for her hard work in beautification.  Our fundraising Chairs are still working hard.  The next event is the Island Creek Yard Sale May 15th beginning at 8:00am in the Island Creek parking lot.  Volunteers are needed.  Spots to sell are still available. Lastly two big thank yous to Connie Pruitt for Publicity and  Stephanie Guidinetti and Terri West for the directory.

                       

Ways and Means:           

Andrew Press was not present at the meeting.

            The Island Creek student directory was distributed.       There will be teacher’s luncheon at the end of the school year, hosted by the PTA.  

           

Education:

Howard Wahlberg had County Reflections projects to return.  Hands On Science is going well.  Flex has ended for this year.  Next year a Reflections Chair and a Hands of Science Chair are both needed.

 

 New Business:

The election was held with the following results:

President: Jeanne Igo

Vice President for Community Outreach: Sheila Dixon

Vice President for Ways and Means:Penny Klein

Vice President for Education: Howard Wahlberg

Secretary: Cindy Smoot

Treasurer: Sonia Smith

Our fundraising chairs Jen Bishop and Simone McDonald are returning.  Christy Brusick and Sandy England have committed to doing Food Product Labels. Liz Dunn will return to do Membership.

 

A motion was made and passed to donate $50.00 to Hayfield High School’s All Night Graduation Party. 

 

Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.

 

Next meeting June 1st at 7:00 pm. I will not be able to attend so these are my last PTA minutes.  It has been my pleasure to serve as your secretary this past year.  I wish the new PTA board much success.
