Island Creek PTA Meeting

June 1, 2004

 

Attendees: Liz Townsend, Alicia Szramoski, Sonia Smith, Jeanne Igo, Lacy Muir, Sharon Shrader, Michael Macrina, Meredith Leech, Melissa Pikul, Amanda O’Hara, Lisa Grewe, Jen Bishop, Penny Klein, Simone McDonald, Carol Valent, Sheila Dixon, Sarah Weller, Liz Dunn, Cindy Harlow, Margaret von Kolnitz, Frances O’Donnell, Sandy England, Betty Harris, and Dr. Susan Owner.

 

I. President’s Report

Margaret Von Kolnitz welcomed all attendees and thanked those who brought refreshments.  She asked for any questions on the minutes of the last meeting.  A motion was made by Howard Wahlberg to approve the May 2004 PTA Minutes. It was seconded.  The motion carried and the minutes were approved.

 

II. Administrative Report:

Dr. Owner welcomed the First Grade teachers to the meeting.  She introduced the new Parent Liaison for Island Creek Elementary School.  Dr. Owner thanked the PTA for all of its contributions during the year, especially for the field trips for the children.  She mentioned that a few new teachers had been hired for next year and that there was some bond money left that would be spent on computer hardware.

 

II.  Treasurer’s Report:

To obtain a current copy of the budget, please email Betty Harris or call our new treasurer for next year, Sonia Smith. Current balance is $7,631.16.

 

III. Vice President Reports

 

Community Outreach:

Cindy Harlow did not have a report. 

Jen Bishop announced there will be a restaurant night fundraiser on June 22, 2004 from 5:00 to 9:00pm at the Landsdowne Shopping Center.  Dairy Queen (Landsdowne) would like to start a once a month ice cream night for Island Creek families.

                       

Ways and Means:           

Andrew Press was not present at the meeting. 

           

Education:

Howard Wahlberg reported on the following:

The Relections program for next year needs a Chairperson or two.  Mary Sullivan will not chair the FLEX program next year but will help whoever chooses to take on that task.  Sarah Weller is the new Hands On Science chairperson

 

 

 

 

New Business:

The deadline was given for getting articles into the June Newsletter.  Penny Klein requested volunteers for the Book Fair.  Sandy England was presented with a thank you card from the children to thank her and her group for the beautification of the school with a pretty garden.

 

Dr. Owner brought up the fact that the Patrol Training Camp is not covered by Fairfax County.  The cost of the training camp is $230.00 per child and four patrols are chosen to go.  Discussion was held.  Sandy England made the motion that Patrol Camp will be supported this year at $230.00 per child for 4 children, to be reevaluated next year. The motion was seconded.  The motion carried.

 

The Installation of new officers was held.

 

Meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15 pm.

 

The next meeting will be held August 4, 2004 at 7:00 pm.
